Driving Cybersecurity Through Collaboration and Discussion
Sharing learnings is becoming an increasingly important strategy for improving cybersecurity.
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
At JakinCode we are aware of the value of participate in key debates that are generated about this area.
Over the past weeks, we have had the chance of taking part in meaningful exchanges of professional insights at specialized events. Below, we highlight some of the main ideas that have guided the contributions presented in the various meetings in which we have collaborated.
KIMIKA CONFERENCE: Industrial cybersecurity and legal obligations in the basque country
Organised by AVEQ-KIMIKA, this conference brought together representatives from the chemical industry and experts in digital regulations. Our Chief Operating Officer, Diego Gil, discussed the impact of the NIS2 Directive in industrial environments, especially in companies that manage critical infrastructure or hazardous substances.
NIS2 (Network and Information Security) is an opportunity to strengthen the resilience of the most strategic industries. Its implementation substantially improves the way organizations must protect themselves against cyber threats. It mandates that key sectors — such as energy, health, transportation, or industry — bolster their digital security, manage risks proactively, and report serious incidents.
In addition to highlighting the fundamental role of senior management in establishing an organisational culture based on cybersecurity, NIS2 focuses on the creation of more robust and secure technological environments. It is part of a broader European regulatory framework that expands the opportunities to reinforce IT systems in the face of the growing threats to which they are exposed.
DIALOGUES IN THE GARDEN: Current cybersecurity challenges and threats
This meeting, hosted by the Official College of Industrial Engineering of Álava (COIIA), reflected on the main challenges that companies face today in terms of cybersecurity.
Key topics discussed included:
- The sustained increase in cyberattacks and their direct impact on companies’ economy and reputation.
- Internal awareness as an essential tool to prevent incidents and reduce the human factor as a risk vector.
- The need for constant technological investment to deal with increasingly sophisticated and evolving threats.
Nerea Baez, CEO of JakinCode, was one of the experts invited to participate as a speaker. In her speech, she focused on the fundamental aspect of cybersecurity as part of the business strategy promoted by senior management. She pointed out the need to go beyond purely technical solutions when it comes to protecting information and communication technologies. Instead, she advocated for building a complete organizational culture around cybersecurity, one grounded in awareness and training, enabling people to learn to recognize and prevent possible threats (social engineering, precautions in the use of corporate emails, etc.).
Cybersecurity is not only a matter of specialists, she stressed at different times in her presentation, but a shared responsibility that permeates the entire organization from top to bottom.

CIBCOM CONFERENCE: “Does Your Company Really Comply Or Just Appear to?”
Along with other leading cybersecurity companies, JakinCode was invited to share its expertise on one of the most pressing topics in today’s corporate environment: compliance (ISO 27001, ENS, NIS2, DORA, etc.).
In a context where digital threats are evolving at a rapid pace, regulatory compliance is no longer just a matter of reputation, but of operational continuity. The conference addressed the regulatory frameworks that are reshaping sector standards, such as the NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
Once again, Nerea Baez shared with the large audience the company’s experience in working with industrial clients on the convergence between IT (Information Technologies) and OT (Operational Technologies). This integration, she said, should be approached from a unified security strategy, with regulations seen not as a checklist but as a guide to strengthening cyber resilience.
Her contribution to the debate revolved around the need not to be satisfied with obtaining official certifications simply based on a documentary collection, disconnected from the company’s actual day-to-day operations. According to her, cybersecurity should be embedded in the effective functionality of the real activity of organizations, especially in sectors where a failure can have critical consequences.
In this sense, her remarks summarised the event’s core concern by making it clear that the question we have to ask is no longer whether companies are complying with relevant regulations, but how they are doing so, and whether that compliance translates into real and effective protection against current risks.

BEDIGITAL – Innovation workshops
As part of the BeDigital fair, JakinCode participated in a roundtable hosted by Cybasque. It focused on key European regulations that are setting the course for cybersecurity: NIS2, CRA (Cyber Resilience Act), IEC 62443, ENS, ISO 27001, TISAX and UNECE R155.
The debate explored how these regulations are impacting the daily operations of organizations, especially in industrial and technological sectors. A key issue was the need to move from theoretical compliance to practical application, with clear criteria tailored to each company’s reality.
Nerea Baez analyzed the challenges posed by the implementation of the Spanish Esquema Nacional de Seguridad (ENS), especially in organizations that are not used to such structured regulatory frameworks. The ENS sets out the principles, requirements and measures necessary to guarantee the security of electronic information and services in the Spanish public sector, as well as in companies that work with it.

CYBASQUE – General Assembly
JakinCode participated in the Cybasque’s General Assembly, a key meeting point for strengthening collaboration across the Basque cybersecurity ecosystem. At a time when cooperation is essential, the assembly reaffirmed a shared commitment to coordinate efforts and position the Basque Country as a European benchmark in cybersecurity.
Likewise, among the points discussed, the need to bet on the development of specialized talent was highlighted. JakinCode’s CEO, Nerea Baez Zaldua, was appointed to the Board of Directors. Her selection reflected her leadership in JakinCode’s strong commitment to promoting cybersecurity and innovation throughout the region.

The activities summarized here reflect JakinCode’s deep commitment to actively contributing to cybersecurity improvements — a field whose future depends on a network of cooperation and shared responsibility. The initiatives described above are helping to lay the groundwork for that future.
